You asked. I painted. 🩵🌺
Day 16 came straight from a TikTok comment, and I have been sitting on this idea since the request came in. Lilo and Stitch, together, hand painted on one thumb nail. “Ohana” lettered across the top. Tropical florals everywhere. Rhinestones tucked into the flower centers.
This is the first look in the challenge that came from one of you, and I want it to be the first of many. If you have an idea, the suggestion box is open. Your idea could be Day 20 or Day 200. 💅🏾
The Nail Breakdown
The gradient base. Purple at the cuticle running down through hot pink into orange at the tip using my pigment. The gradient does a lot of quiet work here. It gives the nail depth and a sunset feeling before any character art goes on, and it keeps the whole composition from reading as flat despite how much is happening on the surface.
Lilo and Stitch. Hand painted together, both mid expression, both instantly recognizable. Lilo with her lei and her open mouthed grin, Stitch beside her with those big blue eyes and that toothy smile. Painting two characters interacting on one nail is harder than painting one, because the composition has to hold both of them without either getting crowded out. Positioning them side by side at the center of the nail let them share the frame the way they share the story.
The “ohana” lettering. White script across the purple section at the top of the nail. This is the detail that turns a character nail into a statement. Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. Putting that word above the two of them says everything the movie says.
The tropical florals. Pink plumeria at the top, orange hibiscus through the middle and bottom, green leaves filling the negative space throughout. The flowers wrap around the characters rather than sitting behind them, which makes the whole nail feel like a scene instead of a portrait on a background.
The rhinestones. Set into the centers of three of the flowers. Small, restrained, and exactly enough. On a nail this busy, more crystals would have been noise. These are the perfect amount of accessory.

I’m proud to say that this is the first day of the challenge pulled from a comment on TikTok, and I already know it will not be the last. There is something different about painting an idea that came from someone else. It pushes me outside what I would have picked on my own, and it means the challenge belongs to the Nail Tribe as much as it belongs to me.
