Who put the “glad” in gladiator? These nails did. 🎭✨
Day 8 and we’ve arrived at what might be my most ambitious set yet, the five Muses from Hercules, individually painted on press-on tips. Calliope, Melpomene, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Clio. All five. In full Greek chorus glory.
Hercules is one of those Disney films with a visual style so distinctive that it’s almost its way of calling to me, the black outlines, the warm terracotta palette, the art deco Greek aesthetic. Getting all of that to read on a nail? A challenge I was very here for.
About This Look
The Hercules art style is inspired by ancient Greek pottery and vase paintings — that warm terra cotta and black silhouette look. For these nails I leaned into that palette: to paint the skin, then magenta dresses. The characters are painted using my usual gel paint and reference images on my phone with a teeny-tiny detail brush.
The biggest technical challenge with multi-character sets is visual consistency; each nail is its own little canvas but they all have to feel like one cohesive set when you hold the hand up. I keep a consistent line weight, consistent proportion scale, and consistent background treatment across all five to make them feel unified even though they’re each different characters.
These took 8 start to finish. One of the longer sets in the challenge so far, but when I held them up and saw all five Muses together I genuinely screamed. Worth it.
