Rocket Power fans, this one’s for you. 🛹
Day 4 sent me straight back to my childhood; specifically to Saturday morning cartoons and that very specific Nickelodeon energy of the late 90s. These nails combine a camo base with hand-painted Rocket Power characters, and honestly I had way too much fun making them.
If you know, you know. If you don’t, we can’t be friends. Just kidding. But go watch Rocket Power.
About This Look
Camo nail art is one of those techniques that looks complicated but is actually very approachable once you understand how the pattern builds. The key is layering you’re not drawing a camo pattern so much as building it color by color in organic, irregular shapes. Start with your lightest color, then layer mid-tones, then your darkest shade. Each layer fills the gaps left by the one before it.
The character art on top is where the patience comes in. Freehand cartoon characters require you to really study the reference, proportions, line weight, which details actually read at nail size versus which ones get lost. At this scale, simplify. The brain fills in the rest when the key shapes are right.
Total look time: 8 hours. Worth every minute.
